My 10+ year old cutter that came with my ancient FoodSaver is still a 5* product, so I ordered this for my Sister-In-Law. It was such a piece of crap that I gave the old one and kept this. It is no wonder that it is no longer manufactured.
!!!PLEASE BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL DESIGN!!!!
There have been a number of regrettable design changes.
1) Instead of a simple hinge that has never failed, now huge holes on the cover that fit over shallow outdents on the bottom, so the lid keeps falling off. (Think cheap paper towel holders)
2) Instead of just lying the roll on the bottom part, now one must snap out a roller dowel and insert it in the roll and snap it back. After five swaps of the two roll widths, the dowel is already falling out.
3) Instead of the cut blade on both sides of the cut-slider, now it is only on one side which is not marked on the lid. Sliding the wrong way scrunches up the plastic and makes the two bags on either side of the cut slightly more difficult to seal.
4) Instead of an easily slidable cut-slider, it is now very stiff at the edges. My frail Mom tried to use it, and had to press down of the lid to get leverage and pressed the lid off (see problem 1)
Stay away from this dog and see if you can get the old style on E-Bay or a garage sale.

It works ok. You must have a straight edge on the roll bags. Cutter is a bit cheap but does the job...
Saves money to use rolls of bags...

One of the biggest problems I have with the rolls of Foodsaver bags is trying to cut them straight. When they're crooked it's hard to line them up properly in the machine to make the first seal to create a bag. I got this to avoid that problem and it really does make nice straight cuts. It's a little awkward to use, or maybe I'm just not used to it, but the results are what I was looking for.
On the other hand, it's one more gadget to deal with in the kitchen so unless I'm making several bags I find myself just grabbing the scissors and cutting off what I need.
