Just RightSep 01, 2010 This canner is just right for canning vegetables, holding a full 7 quarts, but not too heavy to lift off the burner. After reading other reviews I purchased the additional weight set, (item model number 50332) in order to have a ten pound weight for canning most veggies. It's nice to have the pressure gauge, to see how the pressure is rising, and the weight set, so you don't have to babysit the stove. I add a couple tablespoons of vinegar to the water to keep the aluminum interior from staining.
Perfect sizeAug 22, 2010 This 16 quart Presto pressure cooker/canner is the perfect size for my husband and I , We recommend this product!!
Presto 1755 16-qt pressure cannerAug 16, 2010 We purchased this pressure canner after significant research on the internet, and looking at a couple in person at some local stores.
We needed a pressure canner small enough for our electric range, which is a glass-top Frigidaire model from over a decade ago. The flat bottom is smaller than the external diameter of the chamber of the pot, just small enough that it covers the large burners exactly. It is heavy grade aluminum, and feels solid.
This canner does the job well. It immediately started turning black inside, but that is cosmetic only, and reassuring in a funny way as it is turning the color of my grandmother's canner. We keep about 600 square-feet (by measuring our raised boxes) of garden, and it is the perfect size to do home canning for the beginner getting into preserving. It can "can" 7 pint jars at one time, but we often are only putting up 3-4 jars. So far we have done green beans, watermelon rind pickles, tomato sauce, hot pepper jelly, and a couple other things and they all work great. We primarily use Ball wide-mouth pint jars, and they are just the right size for two people.
The pressure gauge works just fine.
The only thing I could wish for, and haven't seen in an "affordable" canner would be to have the pot be stainless steel, because as it is the uses for items other than canning are limited. But we own already 2 large stainless pots, and 1 very large enameled-lined pot, and a crock pot, and frankly don't need this to do anything but canning.
Excellent Pressue CookerAug 08, 2010 Received the pressure cooker quickly. The product was package properly so no damage would occur while shipping. The pressure cooker works great and have already used it twice for canning.
Great for canning seasonJul 15, 2010 This is a great pressure cooker/canner! I have used it biweekly for the past month and not had any problems. After reading several reviews on Presto canners I am very glad I purchased this one. It will get plenty of use this season and in years to come.
