I already have the red plastic canning kit - this is a great upgrade. It's a good and very complete canning set. The stainless steel is easier to clean and sterilize. Love the funnel with its filter insert. I love the lid holder. And the added natural cheesecloth was great, too. Like the other reviewer stated, the canning rack is huge. You'd need a full-sized pot to make it work, so if you're getting this what that item in mind, be aware.

When people in other comments say the rack is "large," they mean it has a 12" diameter. Check your pots before buying! We haven't had much chance to use it all yet, but everything seems to be of good quality.

not at all what I expected. The canning rack did not fit nicely in my large pot. And once it was used, it rusted at all the seams, leaving my nice stainless steel pot with rust marks as well, that eventually came off with time spent scrubbing. The lid holder as well began to tarnish after the first use. Aren't these items meant to be placed in boiling water for a good amount of time? So they really shouldn't be rusting or tarnishing. Everything else worked fine because it did not need to be placed in water for any duration of time.

Great set of basic canning supplies, everything you need to get started except a book. The only thing I'd say is that the rack is quite a bit larger than I expected from the description - you need a full-size canning pot to use it. Otherwise everything was great, just as described and good quality.

Spectacular set but no box!May 18, 2010

This set is absolutely awesome with only one drawback...it doesn't come in a box! It was all in a clear plastic bag that was twist-tied shut inside the shipping carton. Fine for myself but an unwanted surprise if you're giving it as a gift. Just wanted to give a heads-up. :)
