DissapointedJan 12, 2009
By E. Figy I purchased these because I wanted to use my Ball mason jars as water bottles to take to work with me. Problem is that they leak so are not good for carrying around in a backpack. I suppose if the only thing you want them for is to cover up a jar of peaches or something for a day in the fridge they might work. But if you want an actual seal, just stick to the metal cap and rings they came with.

Really usefulMar 20, 2009
By esJaney I use these on jars for dry storage & liquids in the frig. They even have a built-in seal. I'll buy them again.

Great for just about everythingFeb 15, 2009

These are great for when you are not planning to process the jars for room temperature storage and don't want to waste a dome lid (the plastic caps are reuseable, but I won't reuse the dome lids for fear of accidentally processing one that isn't brand new). For instance, when I want to make pickles and have something like 6 1/2 jars worth, I grab a plastic lid for that last 1/2 jar and stick it in the fridge.
I also use 1/2 gallon sized canning jars to keep iced tea and lemonade in my fridge with a plastic cap.

great lidsDec 19, 2009

If you're trying to get rid of plastic storage containers (they're full of bad chemicals), at least you can now get rid of the plastic in the container itself and only have lids of plastic. I use canning jars to store left-overs and these lids fit perfectly onto my wide-mouth jars, One caveat - they are made in China. Who knows what's actually in them... There is no "number" on them anywhere (presumably because they really don't touch the food) so we can only assume that they are a safer plastic.

Now canning jars are more useful!Feb 22, 2010
By Country girl @ heart Best thing to happen to canning jars in years! I take my rings off my jars when I store them. These lids are great after opening a jar particularly of jam or fruit to store in the refrigerator. I also use 1/2 gallon jars for fresh raw milk and these lids are great. Only 4 stars though as it is not a waterproof seal (they can leak if tipped over) but definitely a good thing to keep on hand.
