The high efficiency, quick boiling performance combined with the modest cost makes this pot ideal for canning. Constructed of porcelain on low carbon steel. Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won’t burn and resists staining. It’s also non -porous so it won’t trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction – meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time. When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. The pin marks do not compromise the finish or performance of the vessel in any way but you should take additional care in handling if using on glass top stove. | | | Features: | |

I gave this blancher only 2 stars because of the poorly welded handles. I went to pick up the blancher (minus the colander insert) and pour out the very hot water left over from blanching peas and just happened to notice, thank goodness, that the handle was half off of the pot. Had I not noticed I would have been scalded when the handle broke and the water spilled all over me. Other than that (!) the blancher is fine. So be careful and inspect the handles of this product if you decide to buy one. No matter the price the handles should be safely adhered to the canner. Consumers are dealing with extremely hot water!

A nice finish and just the right size for vegetables. I thought it was too small to cook vegetables for the holidays but I was wrong. Peas and squash worked perfectly in this pot for our big meals. I'm a first time blancher user and can see this little pot will belong right in front on the pots and pan shelf!

Looks like Amazon got a batch of dented pots. My first pot was dented, but Amazon replaced it without hassle. The replacement is fine. I purchased the pot for my mom because it is lighter than stainless for such a large capacity. I also purchased the pot b/c it's made in the U.S. As far as durability, only time will tell.

Item delivered promptly. Blancher is designed with a few large holes in the bottom. This design makes it difficult to blanch small peas such as blackeyed peas or green peas since they easily slip through these holes.

I was very disappointed in this product. First of all, when it arrived, it was bent at the top so the lid doesn't fit good. The other thing is that there are large holes in the bottom of the insert which makes it impossible to use for blanching peas, etc. They will fall right through. About the only thing it's good for blanching is corn on the cob.
