Description:

Six generations of Americans have been using Granite Ware canners to preserve fruits and vegetables. This mini canner is perfect for preserving jams, jellies and salsa. Holds seven pint jars. Comes with rack for easy lifting jars from canner. Granite Ware's high efficiency, quick boiling performance combined with its modest cost make it ideal for canning. The dark porcelain surface and steel core absorbs energy and evenly distributes heat to the contents. Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won’t burn and resists staining. It’s also non -porous so it won’t trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction – meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time. When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. The pin marks do not compromise the finish or performance of the vessel in any way but you should take additional care in handling if using on glass top stove. 11 1/2qt capacity.

5Granite Ware 11 1/2 Qt. Water CannerAug 13, 2008
By Artist Catherine
I have the bigger version of the Granite Ware canner and wanted something for smaller jars, and that would fit better on my stove top. Since I don't can the larger quart sized jars this is perfect for smaller jars (especially 8 oz. 1/2 pints). Also, this size is HARD TO FIND, and the rack that goes inside is a smaller so handles smaller jars better.

4Perfect for smaller jarsJul 25, 2009
By Penmouse
Long ago I had a larger canner, one made for quart jars and the like, and the smaller jars (8 ounce jars or smaller) would tip and fall through the rack. Today, I used the smaller canner and did not have that problem. Instead the wide month 8 ounce jars fit inside the rack but it was a tight squeeze. I managed to get four jars inside the canner and I don't know if I could have managed 7 jars as stated in the leaflet. I don't blame the canning company as the canner was probably designed for the old-fashioned narrow jars (not the wide mouth type) long ago. I am sure if the traditional jars were used this canner would offer outstanding ease of use. Four stars for the tight squeeze but five stars for the ability to can without tipping jars like the previous canner.

Ease of use: Fairly easy. Ease of clean up: Outstanding as this canner fit easily into my kitchen sink and washing it was a breeze.

Update: Today I used the traditional jelly jars in the canner. They fit very nicely and preparing the jelly was a breeze. This is a very nice canner worth the money paid for it.

5Want to can pint jars?Nov 22, 2008

Granite Ware 11 1/2 Quart Covered Preserving Canner with Rack
If you don't need to can quarts, and want to keep the weight you lug around down, this canner is great. It comes to a boil faster than the big canner for quarts, too. You can fit pints, 12 oz., and/or 8 oz. jars in this canner. I have a quart size canner, but use it only when I have an especially large batch to can, or want to speed the canning process by having two pots boiling. You may have trouble fitting seven pint jars into the rack. I just use a slender 12 oz. jar as the seventh one to help with the tight fit.

3Wish it were a bit tallerAug 29, 2009
By JB "jb6606"
I normally only can pint or half pint jars, so this is an ideal size for me overall, but it seems a bit too short. There's barely room to cover pint jars with an inch of water, so I really need to keep my eye on it once it's at a rolling boil. I'd be happier if this were a few inches taller, but other than that, it is a nice size, comes to a boil much faster than a larger canner, and the rack holds pint and half pint jars in place better than the racks on larger canners.
