it failed after a few yearsSep 04, 2010 I bought the system when it first came out. Over the years all the plastic containers have failed. Small cracks so they don't seal anymore. We had marinade, large and small containers...all have failed. $100's of dollars wasted. I liked to use it for soups, marinades so the bags are not practical for me.
Worth Your MoneyJul 22, 2010 Purchased in early July and have used it several times since. Works as advertised so far. Issues of longevity and cracking aside, it does what it was designed to do. It is a clear plastic canister, not black as it appears in the photo.
Gifts for momJun 29, 2010 I bought this as a gift for my mom and dad. They were THRILLED to get this product and the others that went along with it. I wanted to make sure they had extra containers to store food... so they could share with their favorite daughter when they had extra!!! :D

Cheap - Made in China - Canisters Lead to Products' DemiseMay 15, 2010 Foodsaver, I understand, will soon be facing a new competitor with its canister line. Finally!
Unfortunately, Foodsaver, chose to market its canisters like baggies and other non-environmentally friendly consumable products. I have to completely agree with many of the other reviewers here. They have a great concept, but because the canisters are not polycarbonate they do not hold up even in lukewarm water. And if you put them in the dishwasher, as endorsed by the manufacturer, even on the top rack, they will crack almost immediately. This is obviously why they do not guarantee the product.
With my first purchase of several different types of the Foodsaver canisters, I followed the manufacturer's instructions and only put the canister pieces of each product in my dishwasher (even on the upper rack and on the low-energy saver cycle!) However, each canister ended up with very fine cracks and therefore could no longer hold a seal, which is the whole point of using them! Now, they're admitting that they don't hold a seal when stored in the freezer!
I can put almost any inexpensive plastic store-bought container in my dishwasher and have it last forever. There is no excuse for the exceedingly poor quality of Foodsaver's canisters.

Completely useless. No vacuum pump! Description is misleading.May 15, 2010 This package does not come with a vacuum pump which makes it completely useless. If it came with a pump, even at twice the cost, it would have been extremely cool. The container seems like it is very good quality. But I will have to return it. I just wanted to marinate some meat for the grill. I have no intention of buying the whole $150 "Foodsaver System" which would occupy a large amount of counter space. No thank you. I am returning it.
