Expensive but wonderfulJul 28, 2010

"swimmer"
I love this appliance and use it many times in a day. I had almost the same model that only lasted 3 years though, the teflon strip covering the metal heat bar wore out and could not be replaced or repaired by the company so I had to buy a new food saver. I am still very upset at the company for this flaw.....the old appliance was perfect in every other way.....what a waste. Anyway I love the sealer and could not do without one. I seal all of my packages of cereal, bread, chips, brown sugar etc. I vacuum seal and freeze almost all of my left overs, buy in bulk and vacuum and freeze, use the lid sealer for my mason jars, it is one of my favorite appliances in the kitchen that I could not do without. I am hoping the new model has a better heating unit in it that will not break any time soon. A.S.

ObsoleteFeb 01, 2011
By Chris Russack I had a Professional Foodsaver for many, many years. It finally died and I was pleased to find a newer Professional III available on Amazon.com. I ordered it as a gift to myself. I received the item, tested it without real food, and it workded fine. I put it away and threw out the original packing. Big mistake. The second time I used it, a day later, the machine would not shut off. Since I threw out the packing material, I felt I could not return it to Amazon, so I called the company directly to resolve the problem. They could not replace the machine as it is obsolete! This really upset me that Amazon would sell an item that is no longer manufactured. I chose a replacement from FoodSaver that was less expensive since the replacement they offered was only suitable for game hunters, which I am not. So right there, I am out [...]. And they would not pay for my return shipping of [...]. They claim this was a warranty transaction and , after all, I was getting a NEW machine, so shipping was at my expense. They just didn't get the fact that this was a NEWLY purchased item and not an item that had been used for a while and then failing during the waranty period. This whole ordeal has been going on since before Christmas, 2010. FoodSaver, as a company, is not at all proactive in resolving and handling complaints. If I hadn't called to find out where my replacement was, I would have never seen it. But I found out today that I was supposed to call THEM with the tracking information within 48 hours. I was never so advised or I would have called after 48 hours and not patiently waited 3 weeks! A word to the wise...keep your packing materials for at least 30 days to be sure your product works. That way, you can deal directly with Amazon.com with a return problem. And be sure to check out that the item you are purchasing from Amazon is not discontinued.

What an absolute piece of crap, and bad customer service to boot!May 26, 2011
By Bill Seward With a title like that, I almost feel I need to ask "So what's not to love?", but that's piling on.
I bought this unit as an upgrade for a Black and Decker that we had been using for a couple of years. We were buying much more in bulk and were running into issues of increased time to get it all stored. My wife thinks it's a little much to spend a couple of hours repacking meat--imagine that.
It was a several after buying it that we broke the unit out for use. It ran fine the first few uses, then stopped pulling vacuum. Contacting customer (dis)service got an unhelpful canned answer. Persistence got "It's out of warranty," which was true. "We don't sell parts." "We don't offer a repair service." That last one, on an item that costs this much money, got a rather heated reply from me pointedly referencing the old Black and Decker, which cost 10% of what this one cost and was (and is) still working. I got an offer to return it and get a replacement, which I decided was better than nothing. So I boxed it up and sent it back...and heard nothing. Repeated attempts to contact them went nowhere--no acknowledgement that I even exist.
I would not buy another one of these or another FoodSaver product if they were the only vacuum sealer left on the market.
I'm probably going to buy another cheap sealer of some sort. It may not be the best, but at least I won't be out $300 when it dies.

Beware Foodsaver company!Nov 08, 2011
By D. Johnson I have an older model of Foodsaver, the VAC 350. I have had it for about 6 - 7 years. I haven't used it much so it's in good working condition, however the gasket was ruined and I need a new replacement gasket. It's just a foam rubber ring. I looked on the company's website, amazon, ebay, etc. and was unable to find the gasket. I called Foodsaver's customer service and was brusquely told that it's an old model and they don't have any parts for it. I asked if I could use a gasket from another model, and was brusquely told that those gaskets are a different size. No apologies, explanations, offer for a trade in, just ripped my head off. Then they wanted me to answer marketing questions! So here I sit with a perfectly good vacuum sealer that won't work because I can't get a simple part for it. I am guessing that lots of foodsavers end up in landfills because of nonsense like this. I am going to look for a made-in-America (foodsavers are made in China) vacuum sealer with a reputation for supporting its products and customers.

Good ProductJan 18, 2011
By Ray E. Martin This unit is verry easy to use.Once you have the item to seal.. positioned. It will vacuum it so tight...you think it will break the material.
The only problem is...Aleignment on the package you are trying to seal. Once the
system begins to vacuum...you have to position the bag "Just Right" in order to insure a secure seal.Often,it takes several attempt's to insure complete vacuuming and thus a Tight Seal.
Used bags are a real problem,as they are almost impossiable to position!
If you have the patience...this is a good machine.
