FoodSaver is not a reliable productFeb 04, 2010

I rate this item zero stars, but Amazon doesn't provide that option.
My purchase of this unit marks the second one in as many months that I'll have to return. The first was never completely assembled, and arrived with parts shaking around loose inside the case. Needless to say, it didn't function and had to be returned. The second unit doesn't turn off the vacuum until long after the package has been evacuated, then the seal doesn't hold.
Not worth the hassle of processing returns until we finally get one that works as advertised... and then, for how long?

So Far, So GoodSep 08, 2010
By Amy Starr I bought this at a local Target store where it was on sale for $88.00. But I didn't order replacement rolls until today because I wanted to make sure the unit worked well and I could operate it successfully.
I carefully read the accompanying tips and instructions and found it worked well to slightly freeze the meat first so no juice would be sucked up during the vacuum process. Since I've never been good at cutting straight lines, I used one of its gallon bags as a template for creating new ones.
The unit performed flawlessly, has a nice design, and its function buttons are well laid out. It's a great concept and one I expect will eliminate a lot of wasted food at home.

works great!Jul 10, 2010

I bought one of these (I picked mine up at my local Target store) because I wanted to be able to freeze some of the produce from my vegetable garden this year. I've used it several times and it works perfectly. It pulls all the air out of the bag and creates a nice tight seal. It is a little noisy though, not as loud as the coffee grinder but it's definitely not quiet. Since it only takes a few seconds to vacuum seal a bag so it doesn't have to run very long so the noise is not that big a bother. It's relatively compact in size so it doesn't take up much room on the counter and the black/stainless color is unobtrusive and blends well with the rest of my appliances. I'm very pleased with the way this works and would definitely recommend it!

By Mrs Billie Blacketer I've used a Food Saver for many many years and love them. I'm currently on my 3rd one as I tend to wear them out. I do a vegetable garden every year as well as buy my meat in bulk and have for 20 plus years. My first one was a seal a meal then I bought the Food Saver. I prefer to buy different size bags rather than the rolls just a preference.
To save on the cost of buying bags I reuse them. I label the bags in the space above the seal as it's cut off when you open it. After taking the food out I immediately wash the bag really good, allow to dry and it's ready for another use. This is the best air and water tight seal for freezing you will ever find.
I use a lot of Bell Pepper and this works wonders for me. After collecting them from the garden I wash, cut them up and freeze on a plastic lined cookie sheet overnight prior to bagging and sealing them. This way you can put as much or as little as you want in each bag before sealing. Most foods do much better if already frozen, otherwise the Food Saver will suck the air out of the food. This won't hurt it although it isn't very pretty.
This is also absolutely awesome for homemade breads especially our favorites zucchini and cranberry breads. You can have fresh anytime of the year. My husband loves zucchini bread so during the summer I make several small 3x5 loaves to freeze then during the winter I simply take one out of the freeze put in his lunch bag by the time he's ready to eat it's thawed and taste like it was just made.
No I don't get paid for this I just happen to enjoy sharing tips for saving money and food that works.
Husband's happy!Feb 21, 2011
By lforuria This was purchased as a gift for my husband. He is thrilled with it. He has purchased many different sizes of bags to go with it.
