By Sheepwagon Al This book is a collection of seven different phamplets published by the USDA over the past
several decades, now printed as one book with seven chapters. It presents some information beyond current home canning practices such as freezing, basic meat cutting and canning with
metal cans. My mother may have used some of these phamplets in the 1950s--certainly they
contain specific guidelines as established as the USDA itself. But for learning home canning in the 21st century, I would recommend literature published by the Ball Corporation such as their Blue Book or their Complete Book of Home Preserving. Both books present all the essential information in a more understandable manner than government phamplets.
