EXCELLENT BOOK FOR BEGINNER OR EXPECT CANNERS!!Oct 12, 2000
By John Michael Lerma Thanks to my grandmother, I have been canning since I was young. This cookbook caught my eye so I ordered it and have tried several of the recipes. They are all excellent and so easy to prepare. From jams to bread and butter pickles this very thin and colorful book contains a lot of extremely tastey recipes that your friends and family will love. The measurements are exact and the recipes easy to follow. Great for any cook that enjoys preserving or as a gift to someone who wants to try something different in the kitchen. I can't recommend enough!!!

A wonderful canning guide and full of great recipes!Apr 27, 1999
This is a great book--I borrowed it from my sister-in-law and loved it so much I just ordered my own. It has great recipes and beautiful gift ideas, as well as a guide to general canning of all kinds of fruits and vegetables.

Not The Best ChoiceJul 22, 2010
By Burgundy Damsel High points of this book include good safety notes, some basic charts and tips on easily peeling various fruits tucked throughout the pages. I was also pleased to see that it contained two canned soup recipes. On the other hand, the recipes were primarily chutneys, jams and other items that were neither unqiue nor particularly varied. I was extremely disappointed with the inclusion of modified food starch in the apple pie filling - isn't avoiding modified or unnatural ingredients one of the great motivations for canning to begin with? Regardless of your level of canning experience or what you're looking to put up, I suggest you skip this book and try one of the much better options available (Putting Food By or Ashley English's Canning & Preserving being excellent alternatives).
Definitely on the short side, as well.

My husband is an amature canner, just starting out, and was looking for recipes. He was thrilled with this book, and I am anxious to try out the results!
